Geometric Quality Assessment of Prefabricated Steel Box Girder Components Using 3D Laser Scanning and Building Information Model

Prefabricated steel box girders (SBGs) are widely adopted in bridge engineering due to their light weight and low lifecycle cost. To smoothly assemble SBG components on a construction site, it is necessary inspect geometric quality ensure that all the as-is have correct dimensions. However, traditional inspection method time-consuming error-prone. This study developed non-contact assessment technique based 3D laser scanning accurately assess locations dimensions of components. First, robust normal-based region-growing algorithm was divide into segments with different labels. The scanned data related T ribs were then extracted through proposed subtraction after identification cabin. Lastly, required items for calculated feasibility validated real project. Field test results showed could prefabricated more accurate efficient manner compared measurement approaches.
